Working with Objects
Text

Text

Text is one of the most common elements in broadcast graphics — lower thirds, name supers, score displays, headlines. CloudMonet gives you full control over how text looks and animates.

Adding a text object

Click Text in the sidebar, then choose a preset:

PresetUse for
TitleLarge heading text
HeadlineMedium heading
SubheadlineSmall heading
CaptionSmall body text

Each has a different default size and weight. It's placed at the centre of the canvas, already selected.

Editing text

Double-click a text object to open its Text Editor in the sidebar and type there. The Text Editor also has:

  • Bold, Italic, Underline, and Strikethrough toggles
  • Alignment — left, centre, or right

Click outside the panel, or press Escape, to close it.

Styling text

With the text object selected, controls are split between the context toolbar (above the canvas) and panels it opens in the sidebar:

PropertyWhere
Font familyContext toolbar — click the font name to open the picker
Font sizeContext toolbar — direct number field
Text colour (fill)Context toolbar — opens the colour picker, includes a gradient option
Stroke colourContext toolbar
Background colourButton in the context toolbar opens a colour panel in the sidebar
ShadowButton in the context toolbar opens a shadow panel in the sidebar
Bold / Italic / Underline / Strikethrough / AlignmentInside the Text Editor panel

For lower thirds and name supers, a semi-transparent or solid background colour behind the text dramatically improves legibility over video. Set the background colour on the text object or place a coloured shape behind it.

Animating text

Text objects support a rich set of preset animation types — Typewriter, Reveal, Fade, Flicker, and more. Most of these can be applied at different levels: the whole text box, individual lines, words, or even characters.

See Animation Types — Text for the full list and how each one works.
