Creating Your First Design
Every project in CloudMonet starts with a new design. You'll choose a project type, pick a canvas size, and give it a name — then the editor opens and you can start building.
Choose a project type
The most important decision when creating a design is the project type. This determines how your graphic will ultimately be delivered.
| Type | Description | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| HTML5 | Animates and plays in any browser. Publish to a live URL. | Browser sources, web displays, live event graphics |
| GDL | Exports as a ZIP package for playout systems. Requires a Pro plan. | Broadcast playout workflows |
You can't change the project type after creation, so choose carefully. If you're unsure, start with HTML5 — it's easier to preview and share with others.
GDL is locked on the Free plan — the option shows a Pro badge and won't be selectable until you upgrade.
Steps
Open the new design dialog
From your Workspace, click Create New Graphic on the home screen.
Name your project
Enter a meaningful name — something that identifies the graphic at a glance, like Champions League Lower Third or Morning News Ticker. The default is "Untitled Project".
Select a project type
Choose HTML5 or GDL depending on how you'll deliver the graphic. See the table above if you're unsure.
Choose a canvas size
Select a preset that matches your output resolution:
| Preset | Dimensions | Common use |
|---|---|---|
| 240 LD | 320 × 240 | Low-resolution legacy |
| 360 LD | 480 × 360 | Low-resolution legacy |
| 480 SD | 640 × 480 | Standard definition |
| 720 HD | 1280 × 720 | HD broadcast |
| 1080 Full HD | 1920 × 1080 | Full HD broadcast — default |
| 4K Ultra HD | 3840 × 2160 | 4K displays |
Most modern broadcast and streaming workflows use 1080 Full HD. Use 720 HD if your output system is limited to 720p.
Create the project
Click Create Project. The design editor opens and you're ready to build.
