Animation Types — Text
Text objects in CloudMonet support a set of preset animation types — cinematic transitions designed specifically for text that would be complex to build manually with keyframes. Set these in the Animate tab.
Entrance and exit are separate
Each text object has two independent preset slots: Entrance (how it appears when it goes on-air) and Exit (how it disappears when it goes off-air). Pick a different preset for each — for example, Typewriter on entrance and a plain Fade on exit.
By
Most presets let you choose By — what unit of text animates as a group:
| By | Effect |
|---|---|
| Text box | The entire text object animates as one unit |
| Line | Each line of text animates separately, in sequence |
| Word | Each word animates separately |
| Character | Each character animates individually |
Not every preset offers all four — some are restricted to specific units, and a couple don't use By at all (see each preset below).
Animation types
None
The object appears instantly at the start of the design with no transition. Use this for static elements that should always be visible.
Cut
An instant on/off — the object snaps into existence at its keyframe. Typically used in combination with keyframes to switch between states without a transition.
By: Text box, Line, Word, Character Default duration: 2000ms
Fade
The text fades in smoothly from transparent to fully visible (or fades out on exit). One of the most versatile and widely-used text animations.
By: Text box, Line, Word, Character Default duration: 450ms
Slide
The text slides in from a direction, then settles into place.
By: Text box only Direction: ↑, →, ↓, ← Default duration: 500ms
Reveal
The text appears to slide in from behind a mask — the text itself doesn't move, but it's progressively uncovered. Clean and professional.
By: Text box only Direction: ↑, →, ↓, ← Default duration: 600ms
Typewriter
Characters appear one at a time from left to right, as if being typed in real time. Classic for breaking news, dramatic reveals, or techy aesthetics.
By: Character only Default duration: 800ms
Flicker
The text flickers on, simulating an old neon sign or a screen coming to life. Best used for stylised graphics rather than standard broadcast lower thirds.
By: Text box, Line Default duration: 600ms
Scale
The text scales in from a smaller size, or scales out.
Direction: In, Out Default duration: 500ms
Scale doesn't use By — it always animates the whole text box as one unit. Its Direction options (In/Out) mean grow-into-view or shrink-away, not a compass direction like Slide and Reveal use.
Roll
By: Text box only Direction: ↑, →, ↓, ← Default duration: 500ms
Flip
By: Text box only Direction: ↑, →, ↓, ← Default duration: 500ms
Duration defaults summary
| Animation | Default duration |
|---|---|
| Cut | 2000ms |
| Fade | 450ms |
| Slide | 500ms |
| Reveal | 600ms |
| Typewriter | 800ms |
| Flicker | 600ms |
| Scale | 500ms |
| Roll | 500ms |
| Flip | 500ms |
All durations can be overridden in the Animate tab. If a Fade feels too slow at 450ms, shorten it to 250ms for a snappier feel.
